Ten Greatest Plays in Modern AU History
in Chronological Order

by Van Plexico

**Bo Over the Top: Alabama 1982
Legendary dive by Bo that broke the Tide's streak and the Bear's heart.

**Go Bo Go: Alabama 1983
Bama had just scored. Bo didn't like that. On the next play, he went the distance and gave AU the SEC Championship.

**Reverse to Victory: Alabama 1986
Pat Dye couldn't remember Scott Bolton's name, so Lawyer Tillman--signalling for a timeout that was not granted--stayed in the game and took the reverse for a touchdown and the win.

**Slack to Wasden: Florida 1989
A two-handed grab, stumbling backwards, in the game's final seconds, for the Tigers' only TD and the win.

**Fumblerooski: FSU 1990
Bobby Bowden's gamble failed-- the Tigers recovered the ball, got the score, and defeated the 'Noles, 20-17.

**Weurffel is intercepted: Florida 1993
The Gators were up early, 10-0, and seemed to be cruising for the big lead. Then--boom!-- Calvin Jackson snags Danny's pass and takes it back more than 90 yards for the TD. The crowd went crazy, the Tigers were rejuvenated, and AU went on to win a shootout, 38-35.

**Nix to Sanders 1: Alabama 1993
Trailing the Tide in Jordan-Hare in the fourth quarter, the last thing AU needed was to lose Stan White. Yet on came Patrick Nix, the backup, to toss--on fourth down, and on his first pass attempt of the game-- a TD to Sanders. It turned the momentum and the game around.

**"It is Intercepted!": LSU 1994
Leading 23-9 in the fourth quarter, the Bayou Bengals inexplicably kept passing the ball. Three interceptions returned for touchdowns later, LSU would be looking for a new coach. Watching the replay of this game, it's still hard to believe it's real.

**Nix to Sanders 2: Florida 1994
In a wild, see-saw affair against #1 Florida in the Swamp, the Tigers marched the length of the field and, with mere seconds remaining, Nix lofted a fade pass to Sanders. A moment later, the Tigers were euphoric and the Gators had been bested in their own stadium.

**Pass, Bama, Pass: Alabama 1997
They had it won. All they had to do for their first-ever victory in Jordan-Hare was run the ball. But the Tide elected to throw a screen pass. Martavious Houston knocked it loose from Ed Scissum, and seconds later Jaret Holmes knocked it through the uprights. 18-17 was the final, and with it came the SEC West title, along with a ticket to Atlanta.

**Leard to Daniels: Georgia 1999
Out of several spectacular catches-and-runs in '99, Daniel's best was probably one that didn't make it to the endzone. Earlier in this game, he'd caught a pass and then fended off defenders with a stiff arm, all the way to the endzone. This time, however, they caught him-- so he simply carried three of them another fifteen yards, till they finally brought him down on the five. A couple of plays later, AU had scored anyway.

**For a Time, He Couldn't Miss: Florida 2001
Damon Duval will be remembered as one of the most inconsistent superstars in AU history. He missed enough crucial kicks to cost the Tigers several games, but for a string of back-to-back contests in 2001, he simply couldn't miss. The greatest was the kick that beat Florida in 2001: Just as the rain and wind hit, in the final seconds, Duval hit a long, curving kick that hooked way outside and then back, right down the middle, to knock off the #1 Gators, and give Duval three game-winning kicks in as many weeks.

**Ronnie Runs Wild: Florida 2002
Though the Tigers lost this game on a missed field goal at the end, Ronnie Brown made his big splash halfway through this game, coming on for an injured Carnell Williams and very nearly bringing the Tigers back from an early deficit. When nothing else was working, Ronnie entered the game and established himself for the remainder of the season as a threat to be reckoned with. His game against Ole Miss, later in the year, was another huge effort by the somewhat underappreciated back.

**Carnell Goes the Distance: Alabama 2003
Carnell Williams was hurt early in the Alabama game his freshman year, and missed the next year's Bama game entirely. But for his junior year's effort, he made a huge impact immediately. On Auburn's first offensive play of the game, he took the ball and went 80 yeards up the middle for a touchdown. Ben Obomanu would do the same, in similarly spectacular fashion, with a long catch and run on the next drive, but Carnell's run, on the first play of the game, set the tone for Auburn's big win.
