WhiteRocketBooks:  a small press publishing consortium
Publishers of short science fiction, fantasy, and pulp adventure novels and anthologies.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is WhiteRocketBooks?
WhiteRocketBooks is a consortium of like-minded authors and editors, operating as a small-press publisher.  We insist on retaining all legal rights to our respective properties.  Our philosophy is based around producing high-quality books and mutually promoting one another's work.

What does WhiteRocketBooks publish?
WhiteRocketBooks publishes science fiction, fantasy, and pulp adventure novels and anthologies.  Most of our books are "short," which, in today's publishing environment, means under 100,000 words.

Why publish "short" novels and anthologies?
Have you noticed how staggeringly big and long SF novels have gotten lately?  We like long books, too, but a little variety is nice.  We aim to provide shorter novels for readers who like to mix in a quick, fun read, now and then.

How do I buy books from WhiteRocketBooks?
WhiteRocket's books are available from Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble (store or online) and from any other location books are sold.  They also may be purchased directly from our Web site (the one you're reading now), or from our printers, Lulu.com, or from representatives of WhiteRocketBooks at their various public appearances throughout the year.

What if I can't find the book I want listed on Amazon, etc?
There may be a delay of as much as two to three months between books being published by WhiteRocketBooks and being available from retailers.  You may either order direct from us, or just wait another month or so, and you will surely find the book you are looking for at your favorite online retailer (booksellers can order them easily if they are not stocking copies on the shelf).

How many different books does WhiteRocketBooks sell?
In 2006, we only offered the first volume of Van Allen Plexico's Sentinels series, When Strikes the Warlord.  In 2007, we published six additional books.  We have already published Mark Bousquet's Dreamer's Syndrome in 2008 and anticipate at least five more books for the year.  We are growing in dramatic fashion!  Stay tuned for more information!

How are the books printed and shipped?
Books from WhiteRocket are printed and shipped using state-of-the-art print-on-demand technology.  This allows for an ultra-high-quality product, while reducing waste (saving lots of trees!) and eliminating the need for warehouse storage.

What else does WhiteRocket sell?
Currently, we offer T-shirts based on the Sentinels property, via CafePress.com.  Designs vary from time to time, so check back occasionally.

Where will WhiteRocket authors be appearing in the future?
The Appearances list is located here.

Hey, I have a book--can I join WhiteRocketBooks?
At present, we are not actively soliciting new authors.  We need to spend what time we have finishing our own books!
Even so, if you have something you think would be a good match for our line, in terms of length, subject matter, and quality, and you're interested in our "consortium" / "mutual promotion and support" approach, feel free to drop us an email.

Hey, I'm an artist--what about me?
We at WhiteRocketBooks are always interested in seeing art based on our properties, and we've already obtained art from many different talented artists.  There's a possibility your work might even make it into an upcoming book.  We are also very interested in moving into comics-based (sequential art) storytelling, using some of our properties.  If you can provide strong, distinctive art that matches our properties, feel free to drop us an email.

So how do I contact you folks?
The line editor for WhiteRocketBooks is Van Allen Plexico (at least, for now).  You can email him at vplexico (at) gmail.com.
