* Okay, so maybe I weaseled around a
bit, changing the "seven words" and "fourteen
words" around backwards. But you have to admit, it does
seem like something a good Technomage would do: say it
backwards, when discussing it with an EarthForce officer (even one as
good-hearted as Sheridan). I mean, why would Elric give away
even that much about his secrets? Okay, for one, it was probably
metaphorical to begin with... and two, Peter David actually has a
Technomage use the secret words to cause someone to fall in love
"forever" in the Centauri Prime novels. So-- I don't
know. In the final analysis, I needed more words for "leave
without pain" than I needed for "fall in love
forever." If it helps Galen out of his pain, whom are we to
quibble over word counts?
* The Technomage particulars come
mainly from three sources: from Babylon 5/Crusade, the shows;
from Jeanne Cavelos's trilogy of novels; and from my own
extrapolations and needs for the story. I tried to stay as close
to established Mage canon as possible, but I was never 100% enamored
with Cavelos's concepts of the Mages--as solid as her novels
are. But I love the Mages dearly, and hope I got them right
enough for you, the reader.
* Wikken and Darga are my own. I
purposefully omitted the names of the Circle members and leader,
because who knows if the same individuals preside over the Mages here
in this universe, as in the other version?
* Avelar is mine, too, but now you know
who he is!
* The idea of Dureena having a sword is
JMS's, from the Crusade bible. I gave it a name, powers, a backstory,
and a previous owner. I don't know if JMS ever intended Dureena
to become a Mage, but it's a done deal now!
* Originally I had Aveling state that
Dureena found him at the Well of Forever. This has been
corrected to match the events of "The Memory of War" from
our season 1: she actually found the sword in the lair of Genius
Loci. She was infected by the Tech at Avelar's tomb at the Well.
