Year One: 2268: Episode 3
The Well of Forever

Galen persuades Gideon and company to venture deep into hyperspace in search of the legendary Well of Forever, a point of vast power that also served in earlier days as the burial place of the Techno-Mages.  Before they go, a shuttle arrives carrying a representative of the new Psi Corps, there to consult with Matheson.

Eventually finding the Well, the Excalibur crew investigates.  While on the surface of the Well, Galen fulfills his promise to his deceased lover, Isabelle, and scatters her ashes there.  Dureena sneaks away for some unauthorized investigating of her own.

Gideon and Max clash over Max's desire to gain profit from the site, against Gideon's desire to learn what can be learned, find any super-weapons for use against the Drakh, and then get back to their normal duties as soon as possible.

On Mars, Senator Redway and General Lochley campaign for the presidency and vice-presidency of the Earth Alliance (or what's left of it, on Mars and other worlds).  Lochley continues to wonder at the erratic and paranoid behavior of Redway, and at his contradictory attitudes and opinions on political and personal matters at different times of the day.  He seems preoccupied and almost afraid of something--terrified, even.  She investigates further.

Max returns to the Excalibur with a crate full of Techno-Mage devices, anxious to look them over.  Galen confronts him in the hallway, telling Max that such weapons were not meant for him, and causes all the Mage devices to self-destruct.  Max can barely put the crate down before it bursts into flames.

Back in his quarters, an angry Max again receives a message from his ex-wife on Mars, asking for his help, but he does not respond--he's simply too busy, and he doubts he could help her with anything anyway..

Before departing the Well, Dureena discovers the tomb of the Techno-Mage who created her sword--she can tell by the runes carved on both the sword and the tomb.  She crawls into the crypt and touches some metallic strands littering the area.  One pricks her finger.  Later she discovers a metallic spot seemingly growing on her finger.  Later still, the spot is gone, but her hand feels odd, and she wonders what's happening...

The Excalibur returns to normal space, and the Psi Corps representative departs, but Matheson will say nothing of what transpired between them.  Soon after, he begins querying the ship's computer for information on both Lyta Alexander and Talia Winters...
