let's analyze the list of "honorary" avengers and hangers-on that never made it to full active status:

rick jones - first avengers groupie. iron man suggests in issue 10 to make him an actual member but captain america refuses

captain mar-vell - iron man recruits him in issue 172 to help out during the disappearing of avengers. first handbook lists him as posthomous avenger an honorary status according to the master edition

two-gun kid - after helping out 3 avengers in his own time-line decides to join them in their time and journeys to the future and starts hanging out with hawkeye (not the avengers!) he is abducted by the collector and when freed he decides to return to his own timeline. first mention that he was an honorary was either the log or the master edition of the handbook

whizzer - helped the avengers in a few cases, asked by iron man to help during the disappearing of avenger___$s but he declined. the log or the master edition tells us he was an honorary too

guardians of the galaxy - came seeking korvac in this era, met up with the avengers who set them up in their own hq. iron man asks starhawk for help when avengers were disappearing and when korvac was discovered moondragon sent for the rest of the guardians for the final fight. present when gyrich limit their roster to seven, they left same day. the first handbook tells us gyrich gave them security clearance around this time. the log and the master edition calls them honorary

shroud - asked by hawkeye to be the sixth member in avengers west coast, declined. george perez draws him as a member in 30th anniversary poster. no mention of him in the log or the master edition

marrina - married to sub-mariner wh___Äile he was an avenger. issue 300 depicts her head as a member but not her membership issues. the log and the master edition list her as honorary. issue 400 depicts her as an associate

demolition-man - recruited by the captain when the avengers had disbanded. lost in frozen waters. never became official. log and master edition list him as honorary

yellowjacket II - answered summons and participated in one avenger adventure. issue 300 depicts her head as a member and her one-shot membership. the log and the master edition list her as honorary. issue 400 list her as an associate

swordsman II - enemy turned ally, never fully gained official status. issue 400 list him as an associate

magdal___9ene - enemy turned ally who never fully gained official status. issue 400 list her as an asssociate

deathcry - sent to help the avengers by lilandra. she was discovered to be a teen and became an avengers ward. she eventually returned to the sh'iar galaxy. issue 400 list her as an associate

masque - helped avengers during the crossing and started hanging out with hawkeye. black widow disliked her. she was kidnapped from the mansion by benedict. issue 400 list her as an associate

so there. you make your own assumptions of who was an actual honorary and/or hanger on. to me some of these people could've well joined and become great avengers, but, alas, it didn't happen for them!

i don't consider the gla ha___Bngers-on, per se. they were their own group. they had no ties to avengers, only that hawkeye and mockingbird tried to make them into a real team. they didn't hang out with the avengers. they did help them out during that which endures and against terminus, but i never considered them hangers-on. my considerations come from the logs, the handbooks and the poster. the poster depicts a lot of non-avengers in my opinion (the shroud?!) but they didn't depict the gla. i believe the gla had more reason and sense to be on the log and the poster than the guardians myself, for gosh sake, they had the name avengers in it! if byrne would've stayed with the books, i believe the gla would've been an official team or at least be incorporated into the main teams. i would've loved to see that. some of those characters were just t___Soo cool! as for red wolf: he was on my original scribbles when i was preparing this post and i just forgot to add him at the end! oops! i was gonna say red wolf: hero who likes to say he was an avenger to every other hero he encounters! but i skipped him in error! my contention still stands that stingray was at least a reserve member replacing sub-mariner for the duration of one mission that lasted 5 issues. he was unconscious most of the time and he was absent from the debriefing afterwards, but issue 400 lists him as a reserve, and reserve counts in my book as a member. of course the stupid log came up with another title for him: honorary reserve. yet the master edition called him just honorary. so it's really up to your own discretion on stingray. since perez drew him on the poster and as one of the little heads on the view___˜-screens, i tend to believe he was just a simple reserve, so in my estimation, he was a member. captain mar-vell - i'm agreeing with you more and more on this issue, sir! he must've been made a provisional in issue 172! and then a stand-by which really means a reserve by issue 181! but as i have said before, posthomous doesn't an actual avenger make! until someone at marvel clears this up, to me, he was never an avenger. but he should've been...as for jocasta being also posthomous...what a mistake this was! she was made a provisional avenger in issue 197 and a substitute in issue 211. just because she died doesn't give the avengers the right to call her posthomous avenger...i wonder if swordsman, hellcat, moon knight, mockingbird, wonder man, dr druid, gilgamesh are considered posthomous avengers now??
